Peer Supervision Coaching for Spiritual Directors

Illustration

Peer Supervision is difficult to do well. Coaching provides a framework and process for learning to work as a group to help spiritual directors explore their experiences and move to greater freedom in offering spiritual direction.
Heather will provide the following supports to a group of 4-6 spiritual directors.

Facilitate an initial meeting, which will include introductions, sharing of hopes and values, articulation of a common vision, planning the format for meetings, and provide resources for preparing to present to the group.
Facilitate the second meeting, which will include time for peer supervision and debriefing.
Available for additional meetings if requested to observe the peer group functioning together and facilitate a debriefing conversation.
Meet with the presenting director (supervisee), if desired, to further explore their experience and facilitate the group’s learning.

A final meeting is recommended to review the common vision articulated in the first meeting. This may be after the group has met on their own for a set period of time.

As an experienced spiritual director Heather companions spiritual directors as they seek growth in freedom in their ministry. As a fellow learner and sojourner, she desires to accompany others in the role of director and supervisor as a co-discerner and witness.
Heather has been shaped in her approach to Supervision by her personal experience of peer supervision and the wisdom of Maureen Conroy and Lucy Abbot Tucker.

The Studion faculty and graduates also offer spiritual direction to the public.

The Studion was an unexpected gift in my own formation journey. When I entered the program, I expected to add tools for a ministry role in my church. I gained tools but I also found an identity and sureness in God’s great love that previously was not mine. That encounter with God and the wisdom of the faculty created a foundation that led to richer, better thinking about God’s presence and action in this world. The experience has become a plumb line by which I measure my leadership and my companionship. I am so grateful for the renovating of my soul that occurred through the Studion.

There are opportunities in life that will continue to pay dividends far surpassing the initial investment. This has been my experience with training in Spiritual Direction with The Studion. Becoming a Spiritual Director has been the side benefit to the central transformation in my life, knowing and walking with Jesus in a profound way. You will not regret setting aside time for learning, and sharing community with those on a similar journey, all under the tender care of experienced leaders.
