Our Program

Our program consists of three courses providing comprehensive training in spiritual direction while inviting you into a transformative growth experience in your faith journey.

Our Program: Take a Closer Look

We offer a unique two-year, part-time spiritual direction training program, blending in-person residencies and online learning modules. With a cohort model, you'll be part of a supportive group that stays together throughout the program. Upon completion of the program, graduates earn a certificate of completion in spiritual direction.
The three courses of our program run simultaneously :

    Knowing God and Self
    Knowing the Tradition
    Knowing the Practice

Knowing God and Self

Designed for your own growth as a Christian. One of the program's distinctive features is 12-14 days of silent retreat time based on the themes of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises.
During the retreats, you will:

    Gather for morning and evening prayer with the grou
    Meet one-on-one with a spiritual director
    Have space to enjoy rest, prayer, and reflection

Knowing the Tradition

Covers a comprehensive range of topics related to spiritual direction. We design all of our teaching for adult learning styles.
Classroom teaching covers:

    The history and development of the field
    The relationship between spirituality and psychology
    Spiritual formation and practices
    Contemporary issues that one might encounter in spiritual direction.

Knowing the Practice

Ensures students have plenty of opportunities to practice spiritual direction.

Students can expect:

    Several practice sessions observed by a supervisor
    Feedback from both peers and supervisors to help them grow in their skills.
    A practicum during the second year where they provide spiritual direction for people outside of the program.
    Regular meetings with a supervisor during the practicum to process their experiences

During The Two Years Participants Will:

    Receive spiritual direction (30 hrs);
    Complete a practicum offering spiritual direction (50 hrs);
    Receive supervision during their practicum work;
    Write, share, and discuss 8 theological reflection papers;
    Write and present brief reviews on a number of spiritual classics;
    Attend and participate in sessionals led by professional instructors;
    Engage in several silent retreats following the themes of The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius;
    Stay on-site through the live-in experience.
    Keep and maintain a journal for reflections on prayer, personal experience, and spiritual formation.

Before entering The Studion I had no experience or understanding of the work of spiritual direction. But as I immersed myself in this whole new world, not only did I learn to develop a love and life of contemplation, but I was awakened to the wonderful gifts of deep-listening, curious questioning, prayerful presence, and silence. In opening myself to this kind of journey, and in learning to trust the process of this way of life, my inner world was led toward a path of freedom and transformation...
